THE BIBLE NAMES FOR KING JESUS

Q. What’s in a name? A. A lot; especially when it comes to Jesus. I recommend each student of Jesus learn his many names, what they mean and where to find them in scripture. Here are a few for your use in class, personal Bible Study, group settings or as preparation for the Jesus Quiz.


Advocate (1 John 2:1) My little children, these things write I unto you, that you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:


Almighty (Rev. 1:8) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, says the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. (And Mt. 28:18) And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, ‘All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.’


Alpha and Omega (Rev. 22:13) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.


Amen (Rev. 3:14) And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;


Apostle of our Profession (Heb. 3:1) Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;


Atoning Sacrifice for our Sins (1 John 2:2) And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.


Author of Life (Acts 3:15) And killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.


Author and Finisher of our Faith (Heb. 12:2) Looking unto Jesus the Author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.


Author (Captain) of Salvation (Heb. 2:10) For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the Captain of their Salvation perfect through sufferings.


Beginning and End (Rev. 22:13) I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the first and the last.


Beginning of the Creation of God (Rev. 3:14) And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the Creation of God;


Blessed and only Ruler (1 Tim. 6:15) Which in his times he shall show, who is the Blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;


Bread of God (John 6:33) For the Bread of God is he which comes down from heaven, and gives life unto the world.


Bread of Life (John 6:35, 48) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Verse 48 I am that Bread of Life.


Bridegroom (Mt. 9:15) And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bride chamber mourn, as long as the Bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.


Capstone (Acts 4:11) This is the Stone which was set at naught of you builders, which is become the Head of the Corner. (And 1 Pet. 2:7) Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the Stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the Head of the Corner,


Chief Cornerstone (Eph. 2:20) And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the Chief Cornerstone;


Chief Shepherd (1 Pet. 5:4) And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a crown of glory that fades not away.


Christ (1 John 2:22) Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is Antichrist that denies the Father and the Son.


Creator (John 1:3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Deliverer (Rom. 11:26) And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, ‘There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:’

Door (John 10:9) I am the Door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.


Eternal Life (1 John 1:2; 5:20) For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that Eternal Life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)


Faithful and True (Rev. 19:11) And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.


Faithful Witness (Rev. 1:5) And from Jesus Christ, who is the Faithful Witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,


Faithful and True Witness (Rev. 3:14) And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the beginning of the creation of God;


First and Last (Rev. 1:17) And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the First and the Last:
(Rev. 2:8) And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things says the First and the Last, which was dead, and is alive;
(Rev. 22:13) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the First and the Last.


Firstborn From the Dead (Rev. 1:5) And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the First Begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,


Firstborn over all creation (Col. 1:15) Who is the image of the invisible God, the Firstborn of every creature:



God (John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(John 20:28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
(Heb. 1:8) But unto the Son he says, ‘Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.’
(Rom. 9:5) Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

(1 John 5:20) And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.


Good Shepherd (John 10:11, 14) v. 11 ‘I am the Good Shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.’ v. 14 ‘I am the Good Shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.’


Great Shepherd (Heb. 13:20) Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that Great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,


Great High Priest (Heb. 4:14) Seeing then that we have a Great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.


Head of the Church (Eph. 1:22) And has put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the Head over all things to the church,

(Eph. 4:15) But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the Head, even Christ:

(Eph. 5:23) For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the Head of the church: and he is the Savior of the body.


Heir of all things (Heb. 1:2) Has in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he has appointed Heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;


High Priest (Heb. 2:17) Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.


Holy and True (Rev. 3:7) And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things says he that is holy, he that is true, he that has the key of David, he that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens;


Holy One (Acts 3:14) But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;


Hope (1 Tim. 1:1) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Savior, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;


Hope of Glory (Col. 1:27) To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:


Horn of Salvation (Luke 1:69) And has raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;


I Am (John 8:58) Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I Am.

Image of God (2 Cor. 4:4) In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.


Immanuel (Mt. 1:23) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.


Judge of the living and the dead (Acts 10:42) And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.


King Eternal (1 Tim. 1:17) Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.


King of Israel (John 1:49) 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, ‘Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!’ 48 Nathanael said unto him, ‘How do you know me?’ Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘Before that Philip called thee, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.’ 49 Nathanael answered and said unto him, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.


King of the Jews (Mt. 27:11) 11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ And Jesus said unto him, ‘You say so.’



King of kings (1 Tim 6:15; Rev. 19:16) 1 Tim 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, un-rebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

(Rev 19:16) And he has on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDs.



King of the Ages (Rev. 15:3) And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are your ways, you King of saints.


Lamb (Rev. 13:8) And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.


Lamb of God (John 1:29) The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.’


Lamb Without Blemish (1 Pet. 1:19) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.


Last Adam (1 Cor. 15:45) And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.


Life (Col. 3:4) When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory. (John 14:6) Jesus said unto him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.’


Light of the World (John 8:12) Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.’


Lion of the Tribe of Judah (Rev. 5:5) And one of the elders said unto me, ‘Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to lose the seven seals thereof.’


Living One (he that lives) (Rev. 1:18) I am he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.


Living Stone (1 Pet. 2:4) To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,


Lord and Savior (2 Pet. 2:20) For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.


Lord of All (Acts 10:36) The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)


Lord of Glory (1 Cor. 2:8) Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.


Lord of lords (Rev. 19:16) And he has on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.


Man from Heaven (1 Cor. 15:48) 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

Master (Luke 5:5; 8:24; 9:33) And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

(8:24) And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

(9:33)And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.


Mediator of the New Covenant (Heb. 9:15) 15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.


Mighty God (Isa. 9:6) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Morning Star (Rev. 22:16) 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Only Begotten Son of God (John 1:18; 1 John 4:9) 18 No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Our Great God and Savior (Titus 2:13) 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ;


Our Husband (2 Cor. 11:2) For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Our Protection (2 Thess. 3:3) But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.

Our Redemption & Righteousness (1 Cor. 1:30) But of him you are in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Our Sacrificed Passover Lamb (1 Cor. 5:7) Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us:

Power & Wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24) But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ (is) the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Precious Cornerstone (1 Pet. 2:6) Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, ‘Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believes on him shall not be confounded.’


Prophet (Acts 3:22) For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall you hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.

Rabbi (John 1:49) Nathanael answered and said unto him, Rabbi, you are the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

Resurrection and Life (John 11:25) Jesus said unto her, I am the Resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in me, though he was dead, yet shall he live:

Righteous Branch (Jer. 23:5) Behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

Righteous One (Acts 7:52; 1 John 2:1) Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom you have been now the betrayers and murderers:

Son of the Highest (Luke 1:32) He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

Source (Author) of Eternal Salvation (Heb. 5:9) And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

The One Mediator (1 Tim. 2:5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

The Stone the builders rejected (Acts 4:11) This is the stone which was set at naught of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

True Bread (John 6:32) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.

True Light (John 1:9) That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world.

True Vine (John 15:1) I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Truth (John 14:6) Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24) But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.


Word (John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.


Word of God (Rev. 19:13) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
